As is the case all over the world, the Covid-19 shock has changed Latin America’s economic reality. The direct impact of the crisis and the corresponding policy responses have demanded the hastened allocation of substantial fiscal resources. The repercussions of this concurrent emergency on production, employment, and on the solvency of both firms and individuals will be profound and lasting. The outlook has multiple implications for the sustainability of public debt and the stability of the financial systems in the region.

To discuss these issues, from both a macro and a micro financial point of view, we have invited two renowned experts on these subjects to join us: Dr. Carmen Reinhart, Chief Economist and Vice President of the World Bank, and Dr. Liliana Rojas-Suarez, Director of the Latin America Initiative and Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development.

Each expert began by presenting their views on the topics, followed by a question and answer session. This virtual seminar provided a valuable analysis to better understand the current, new, and persistent challenges faced by the Latin American economies.
